SNMMI submits comments on Beta Amyloid Imaging
On November 8, 2012, SNMMI submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regarding the National Coverage Analysis Tracking Sheet for Beta Amyloid Positron Emission Tomography in Dementia and Neurodegenerative Disease. SNMMI requested that CMS reconsider its non-coverage decision of PET scans and provide coverage for the use of beta-amyloid PET scans as a diagnostic test for the purpose of estimating beta-amyloid neuritic plaque density in adult patients with documented cognitive impairment who are being evaluated for Alzheimer’s disease and other causes of cognitive decline.
