Now Available: Guide to NRC Compliance, Updated with Completely New Section on Radiopharmaceutical Therapy

The SNM’s Guide for Diagnostic Nuclear Medicine and Radiopharmaceutical Therapy has been updated and expanded to include a section on therapy. The guide to compliance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) requirements under 10 CFR Part 35 may be used in place of the NRC’s more cumbersome regulations for licensing medical by-product material.

Author Jeffry A. Siegel, PhD, noted that "The NRC has clearly stated that its guidance for licensing under 10 DRF Part 35 is not intended to be the only means of satisfying requirements for a license." To that end, Siegel worked with NRC reviewers and with representatives from a number of professional medical organizations to develop a clear and specific guide for compliance that also points out procedures that may not be necessary and identifies ways to establish a radiation safety track record that will allow a licensee to unilaterally revise certain components of its radiation safety program.

The volume was profiled in the June issue of the Journal of Nuclear Medicine (2004;45[6]:28N). More information is available in the SNM Service Center.
