New PET COE Feature: Clinical Papers of the Week
The PET Center of Excellence (COE) has launched a new service for members: Clinical Papers of the Week. Each week the PET COE website will post a list of all medical research papers published during the previous week that include PET or "positron emission tomography" in their keyword list.
PET COE members may download the reference list in EndNote format which will allow them to click directly through to the paper’s abstract on PubMed. If members or their institutions subscribe to the publications in which the paper was originally published, they will be able to download the entire paper.
The references have been identified by specialty by Henry D. Royal, MD, a member of the PET COE Board of Directors. Dr. Royal has also identified articles that are of particular relevance to the field of oncology. The highlighted oncology papers are featured each week in the PET COE web area. Interested readers can access the PubMed abstracts from this area with a single click. In addition, full text versions of the articles are frequently available through the PubMed link. In the future, other specialties may also select papers that they find most relevant each week and feature them in the PET COE area.
Information overload is one of the worst problems facing the practicing physician—the problem of how to keep up with the literature so that the information can be put to work in the clinical setting. The PET Clinical Papers of the Week feature is one way to process information more efficiently. Rather than hundreds of physicians running the same PubMed search every week, a few can share their search results, and their perception of which papers are most relevant, with their colleagues.
