Gambhir Receives SMI’s Achievement Award

SNM member Sam Gambhir, MD, PhD, was presented with the Society for Molecular Imaging’s Achievement Award at the SMI's annual meeting in September.

The award is given to a single scientist who has made a fundamental discovery in the field of molecular imaging that has changed the direction of the field or enabled new in vivo investigations that were not possible prior to their contribution.

Dr. Gambhir’s research interests include imaging approaches to gene therapy, microPET and microCT, bioluminescence optical imaging with a charge coupled-device (CCD) camera, and fluorescence optical imaging. He is chief of the Nuclear Medicine Division and the director of the Molecular Imaging Program at Stanford University (California).
