Call for Applications: 2007 NIH Director’s Pioneer Award
The NIH Director's Pioneer Award, a key component of the National Institutes of Health Roadmap for Medical Research, supports exceptionally creative scientists who propose highly innovative and potentially transformative approaches to major challenges in biomedical research.
In September 2007, NIH expects to make five to ten new awards of $500,000 in direct costs per year for five years. Women, members of groups that are underrepresented in biomedical research, and individuals in the early to middle stages of their careers are especially encouraged to apply.
The application process is open to U.S. citizens, non-citizen nationals, or permanent residents who are interested in exploring biomedically relevant topics. Applicants must be currently engaged in research (any scientific field) and willing to commit at least 51% of their research effort to the Pioneer Award project.
The streamlined application includes a three- to five-page essay and three letters of reference. Applicants may apply online between December 1, 2006, and January 16, 2007. More information is available at http://nihroadmap.nih.gov/pioneer or by emailing pioneer@nih.gov.
